"PSG Casian"
is a tag that means a lot to most people. The PSG  College
of Arts and Science commonly referred to as PSG CAS, is one of
the premier educational institutions in Coimbatore. It is managed
by the PSG & Sons Charities Trust, which was formed in
1926 exclusively for the promotion of education. PSG CAS started
as an intermediate college in 1947 and attained autonomous status
in 1978. With autonomy came need-based education.
It also brought in the use of modern tools of educational technology,
application-oriented subjects, new methods of evaluation and publication
of examination results within three weeks of the end of examinations.
The college has been very recently rated at 5-star level by the National
Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
The College has 205 teaching faculty of whom 53 have done their Ph.D
and 82 have done their M. Phil qualification. Spread over an area
of around 50 acres, with a built-up area of around 3 lakh square feet,
the college has 120 classrooms, a computer centre with 120 Pentium
workstations, a 2,000 seater auditorium, an indoor games hall,
floodlit basket ball and volley ball grounds, a health centre and
the latest teaching aids.
Academic Programme:
Autonomous, Credit-based Semester system for all Under Graduate (UG)
and Post Graduate (PG) courses. The credit system provides opportunities
for choosing courses from other disciplines. The system of assessment
is 25% of the marks come through Continuous Assessment (CA) and 75%
through the End-Semester Examination.
