Saint
Joseph's University, Philadelphia, one of America's leading Universities,
today announced the launch of India's first Masters Programme in Health
and Hospital Administration in association with Kovai Medical Center
Research and Educational Trust (KMCRET), a Coimbatore based organization
focusing on education, training and research. With the objective to
shape students into highly qualified managers and administrators,
in the health and hospital domain Saint Joseph's University will offer
a postgraduate degree in Health and Hospital Administration at a competitive
tuition cost of Rs. 4,34,000/-. This tuition cost does not include
travel, boarding and lodging cost in U.S.A. and Coimbatore.
"Globally, the healthcare industry is estimated at $3 trillion
and the demand for quality healthcare in India is expected to increase
at a rapid annual rate of 13 per cent. Given this need for qualified
administrators in the healthcare industry, we have partnered with
KMCRET to offer our reputed MS in Health and Hospital Administration
to Indian students. The programme is both scientifically designed
and internationally oriented," commented Ms. Susan Kassab,
Director of Admissions, Saint Joseph's University on the launch
of the programme.
The eighteen-month Masters programme proposed by Saint Joseph's
University to bridge the need gap of the Indian healthcare scenario,
offers a host of courses such as Health Care Organization, Managed
Health Care and Health Services Research. The faculty of Saint Joseph's
University will teach six of the above courses. The University's
Program Director, Dr. Newhouse, an expert in healthcare education,
will conduct an intensive faculty development programme for the
KMCRET faculty, which will equip the latter to teach the rest of
the six courses. The programme is unique because it provides students
with the expert guidance of locally based KMCRET faculty as well
as SJU's international faculty.

The courses are designed for students with a Bachelor of Science
or a Professional degree in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy,
Social Work and Engineering, with a minimum of 60% marks and above.
As part of the programme, students will travel in summer to Saint
Joseph's University's campus in Philadelphia, to study for twelve
weeks intensively; undertaking courses in Health and Hospital Administration
and observational trips with practical training at leading hospitals
in the U.S.A.
The programme will commence on 4 July 2005, application forms and
prospectus will be available from 21 March 2005.
