What
does it take to become the heart throb of thousands? It takes a wild-eyed
innocence coupled with a sensuous body. It takes a lead actress like
Rambha.
Clad in a red micro mini, she captured the hearts of the audiences
with the song "Azhagiya Laila!" in her debut film Ullaththai
Alli Thaa with her pose a la Marilyn Monroe.
Introduced by C. Sundar, Rambha became a star overnight. Critics
predicted that her next film Sundara Purushan, would
bomb at the box office. But she proved them all wrong.
Kaadala Kaadala a hilarious comedy in which she co-starred
with Kamal Hasan and Prabhu Deva was a turning
point.
Her notable films include Arunaachalam in which super
star Rajnikanth played the lead role, VIP, Minsara Kanna
and others. She has also made forays into Bollywood with Judwaa
and Bandhan (Hindi), films in which she acted opposite
Salman Khan. Rambha also has a presence in the Telugu film
industry.
SIMRAN
One
of the most sought-after heroines in Kollywood (Chennai Cinema) today,
Simran's entry into filmdom was unplanned. Compering Superhit
Muqabla (a countdown show on Doordarshan - the government-run
television channel) in her student days, she was spotted by Jaya
Bachchan who called her for a screen test.
Introduced in Hindi by Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited
in their film Tere Mere Sapne she had an enviable start
to her career. Though she did not fare well in Hindi, she became a
success in South Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu and even a few
films in Malayalam.
In her first Tamil film Once More, which had a star
cast including thespian Sivaji Ganesan and Vijay, Simran
caught the attention of the Tamil audience. Followed by Kalaipuli
Thanu's expensive bonanza VIP, Simran was presented
in a new light - as a glamour doll.
Her hit films like Naerukku Naer, Kannethire Thondrinaal, Thullaatha
Manamum Thullum, Aval Varuvaala and Vaali catapulted
her to star status.
Simran, a Punjabi lass, is at heart a home-loving girl who
loves to interact with people, go shopping and cook Punjabi dishes
for friends. |
