"One of the largest film
studios in Southeast Asia, AVM was founded by A.V. Meiyappan.
Originally the studio was started at Karaikudi in 1946. A. V. Meiyappan
produced the silver jubilee film Naam Iruvar and other
films like Vedaala Ulagam and Ram Rajya
here. The studio moved to its present location, at Vadapalani, in
1948.
Starting with a single shooting floor, AVM Studios now has
nine floors. Also available are recording theatres and a computerised
dubbing theatre. Facilities for video production include U-matic cameras,
Beta cameras, a video dubbing theatre, editing rooms and air-conditioned
preview theatres. Also offered are outdoor and indoor set creation
units and automated back-projection facility for shooting.
Among the landmark films produced under the AVM banner were Harischandra
- the first Indian film to be dubbed in two languages, the all-time
comedy film Sabaapathy and Hum Panchi ek Daal
Ki that won the President's award. To celebrate the 50 years
of AVM, the Broadway-musical styled film Minsaara Kanavu
was released with great success.

THE PRASAD GROUP
Since Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasad or L.V. Prasad as
he was known established Prasad Studios in 1965, the group
has been providing the city's film and television industry the best
in state-of-the-art production and post-production facilities.
Prasad Video Digital offers inter-format editing suites, computer
graphic suites, a digital audio facility, multi-camera packages and
a telecine suite. The group's 70 mm recording theatre is the only
one of its kind in Asia, offering 70 mm 6-track and 35 mm 4-track
mixing, striping and transfers, all under one roof. Prasad Studios
houses shooting floors, recording theatres, a dubbing theatre and
a sophisticated editing suite. Prasad Labs, the largest in
the country, processes around 10 million feet of film per month. Prasad's
EFX offers the latest in reverse telecine, film recording,
digital film scanning, special effects and graphics-for-film services.
Positioned as a one-stop shop for film and television, the group is
now getting back to content production with which it started off in
the beginning.
VIJAY VAHUNI STUDIO
One of the oldest studios in Chennai, Vijay Vahuni, spread
over 24 acres, is the brain-child of
B. Nagi Reddy. Set up in 1949, the studio has 78 movies to
its credit.
The studio's ninth floor is the biggest in South East Asia. The
floor was created to put up a set of Pondy Bazaar in T.Nagar for
the film Engal Vettu Pillai. There are totally 13
floors and one film was shot round-the-clock on all the floors.
The first film shot in the studio was Sowcar (both
in Tamil and Telugu). Vijaya Vahuni has one of the biggest colour
labs in the country.
The hallmark of the studio is that films in Oriya, Sinhalese, Bengali,
Hindi and Tamil have been shot here. Some of the mega hit films
shot in the studio are Maya Bazaar, Missi Amma, Pathala Bairavi,
Pandiya Rani, Nam Nadu and Kuzhandaikaga.
The last film produced under the banner is Sriman Srimathi
in Hindi. Presently only four floors are in use. The management
is handled by Nagi Reddy's sons - Prasad, Venugopal, Viswanatha
and Venkatrama.
