The K G Heart Surgery
Centre (KGHSC), is a super speciality hospitality for total heart
care, equipped with a modern cardiac surgery operation theatre, the
latest heart-lung machine, a well-equipped Intensive Care Unit
(ICU) with state-of-the-art facilities like Intra Aortic Balloon
Pump (IABP).
The centre is headed by Dr. T. Jayarama Pai, MS, Mch, FIACS,
an eminent cardiac surgeon who has worked in the Sri Sathya Sai
Baba Heart Institute, Puttaparthy.
Different types of adult heart surgeries like Coronary Artery Bypass
Grafting (CABG), are performed under the Open Heart Surgery
Programme. They also perform Coronary Bypass (CABG) on
a beating heart, without using a heart-lung machine. Apart from CABG,
all types of valve replacement / repair, aortic root replacement,
aneurismal surgeries, congenital heart surgeries like Tetralogy
of Fallots (TOF), Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC),
Double Chamber Right Ventricle (DCRV) and Aorto Pulmonary Window
are also done here. Closed heart surgeries like Closed Mitral
Valvotomy (CMV), Coarctation of Aorta and BT Shunt are
performed in addition to vascular, pulmonary and mediastinal surgeries.
There is a 11-bed ICU with an isolation room, equipped with modern
bedside monitors, central monitoring systems, ventilators, infusion
and syringe pumps.
The KGHSC has invested Rs.20 crore in providing the latest diagnostic
tools including whole body spiral CT Scan, MRI imaging, Colour Doppler,
computerised Blood Analysis Laboratory, Digital Cathlab, Mammography
and other equipment.
The Regional Blood Bank at the hospital, has been developed at a cost
of Rs.80 lakh. Since its inception, it has served the requirements
for blood of about 1,10,000 patients. The blood bank also serves the
needs of 260 hospitals in and around Coimbatore.
