Good news for visitors - you don't need to speak in Tamil to manage your way through Coimbatore. English will do just fine. And in case you know any other language like Hindi, we still recommend you stick to English.

Clothing

Light cottons should be the order of the day unless it is raining.

Traffic

Traffic in the city is pretty orderly unless you are ravelling on the highways, where we recommend that you drive very cautiously.

Public Transport

If you are looking at economical public transport, the In-city bus service and minibus service will prove ideal provided you have one of those bus guides with the bus numbers and their respective destinations handy. But we recommend this only if you have time and during lean hours.

Autorickshaws

Autorickshaw drivers in general are a very genial lot here and very respectful. The metered rate is very exorbitant, the drivers usually ply for a flat rate and are open to bargaining. At all times enter the autorickshaw only after you are in agreement with the driver as to what the fare should be.

Drinking Water

Unless you are at a well-run restaurant or hotel, avoid drinking water other than from sealed water bottles (mineral water).
