The
Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA)
plays a crucial role in grievance redressal, exposition of products
and services through Trade Fairs, logistic support and the provision
of entrepreneurship development training inputs to the small scale
sector in Coimbatore.
CODISSIA was formed with 40 members, on 17th November 1969. One
of the highlights of the association's activities is the Industrial
Trade Fair INTEC, conducted by CODISSIA in Coimbatore since
1988. This event has, over the years, not only drawn lakhs of visitors,
but has also generated high volumes of business for participants
in the fair. In 1986, CODISSIA and South Indian Engineering Manufacturers
Association (SIEMA) jointly sponsored a Testing Centre - Small
Industries Testing and Research Centre (SITARC) to provide quality
test facilities at Coimbatore. In 1996, CODISSIA received the 'Best
Managed Professional Association Award' from the Coimbatore
Management Association.
CODISSIA
has also set up the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex - the first
in south India and second largest in the country (next only to Pragati
Maidan in New Delhi). This permanent Trade Fair complex boasts
the largest pillar-free exhibition hall in the country.
With a membership of 4,000, CODISSIA's representations to government
departments and other agencies has helped significantly towards
solving problems that have affected industry from time to time.
