With the objective of being a backbone support for the small scale
industrial sector, the District Industries Centre (DIC) has
come a long way since it was formed in 1979.
DIC organises motivational campaigns, entrepreneur development
programmes, feasibility programmes and arrangements for credit facilities.
It provides assistance by co-ordinating with other departments in
obtaining clearances under the 'single window' concept. It also
undertakes the recommendation of applications for the issue of import
licences for the import of raw material and capital goods. It supplies
raw material that is in short supply through the State Industrial
Development Corporation (SIDCO) and capital goods through the
National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC). It also issues
temporary and permanent registration certificates for Small Scale
Industries.
DIC appraises applications for bank credit to SSI units and prepares
feasibility reports. It also has a scheme called ‘Assistance
to Educated Unemployed Youth’ through which it provides financial
assistance to youth from the economically weaker sections of the
society. It offers subsidies like Backward Area Investment Subsidy,
Special Industries Capital Subsidy, Generator subsidy, Power subsidy,
Coir subsidy and ISI subsidy.
