Dedicated
to Theosophy, (which upholds the principle of the innate oneness
of all life and the sacredness of all living creatures), the Annie
Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary provides health care to animals
in the city.
Started on July 16th 2000, the Dispensary treats animals totally
free of charge, except in cases where the animal has been vaccinated.
More than 40 animals are treated at the Dispensary each day.
Experienced
surgeon - Dr. Jagannathan, provides injections, ointments
and necessary advice to owners and residents of the neighbouring
areas, depending on the nature of illness diagnosed. Besides treating
animals, the Dispensary also provides shelter for animals disowned
by their owners and feeds them through donations from philanthropists.
The meals provided for stray dogs on the compound are prepared at
the Dispensary. And if you are interested in adopting a pet, you
might be lucky at the Dispensary, because they also gives animals
on adoption.
There are facilities for conducting surgeries. But if the condition
of the animal is very serious, it is at once referred to the Veterinary
Hospital for treatment.
