Geographical Location
Coimbatore is situated around 11° north latitude and 77° east longtitude, in western Tamil Nadu, South India.

Topography
While the city is flat, it is surounded by hilly terrain, since it is situated at the foot of the Niligiri Hills. In this, the third largest city in Tamil Nadu, groundwater supply has never been bountiful. The crops that flourish here are millet, paddy, cotton, tea, oil seeds and tobacco.

The People
The majority are Tamil-speaking. Despite being very enterprising in business, the people of the city seem conservative and they continue to cherish age-old customs.
